As my time in New Zealand is winding down, I’m preparing for my last side trip and then to tackle the last 230km of Te Araroa.

My last side trip will be the Kepler Track Great Walk. When I first came to New Zealand years ago, the Kepler Track was my first foray into the New Zealand wilderness. It seems apropos that it should be one of my last experiences here as well.

I’m looking forward to revisiting this magnificent track, with a better camera than before, and spending a few days hiking above the tree line in Fiordland National Park.

I’ve also been reflecting over the past five months I’ve spent in this magical country. I’ve seen sights that can only been reached on foot. I’ve traveled here by foot, bicycle, car, bus, helicopter, and plane. The only major mode of transportation I haven’t used here, that I can think of, is horse. I suppose that’s one item to add to my list for next time!

When next you hear from me, I should be in Bluff, showing off photos from the finish line!
