As I finish the North Island of New Zealand, I am looking back at the past 1688 kilometers and thinking. I am thinking that I am very thankful that I have this opportunity. I am thankful that I’ve met dozens of amazing people along my journey. I’m thankful that I’ve yet to meet someone who hasn’t been encouraging to me and supportive of my adventure. I am especially thankful for Savannah Kiwi and Kiwi Bloke for opening up their home to me on my way through Wellington and providing me with an amazing Thanksgiving dinner. It’s nice to celebrate the holiday with family and friends.

I suppose this is the time of year to reflect on these things. And while I am truly humbled by the outpouring of generosity by the Kiwis I’ve met along the way, I find myself thinking ahead. What’s next along the trail? Where will the path lead?

I’m setting off this morning with the next 10 days forecast for rain. But to finish my adventure I must press on. The quest for Bluff is ever closer now, with only 1310 kilometers to go. Somehow I suspect the difficulty is just beginning.
