The number one question I’ve been asked is how is this possible? The answer is quite simple really. I started looking around online at how other people do it, and I’m taking the next step!
I’ve always wanted a life of adventure. I’ve always wanted to see the world. I made life choices that were expected of me. Got married, did the suburban thing. All that was fine, but left me wanting more of something. My time in Puerto Rico has given me countless hours to reflect on me and what I want out of life, so it’s time to go for it. Nike said it best, just do it!
As with everything in my life, I began with research. Other people have done this. How did they succeed? How did they fail? I’ve always been handy. Working odd jobs where I can help someone has always been a forte. Thank you to my Uncle Don – without your guidance I’d never know how to do home repairs with any degree of efficiency. I’ve spent years being technical support for friends and family. I’ve worked in IT for a hospital and am fairly proficient at computer repair.
All of my marketable skills translate nicely into work I can do anywhere. On a trip to New Zealand I bartered an amazing dinner and laundry service for removing a virus from a PC. You know a business transaction was good when both parties walk away feeling they got the better end of the deal. Why couldn’t I parlay that experience to everyday life?
Learning what I need vs what I want was key to this whole life changing experience.
So, how am I going to do this? It starts with a base of savings. Not an easy task these days, but not impossible either. We make the things we want a priority in our lives. I want change. After savings, I’m focusing on making money through other means. I’ve put a donation page on this blog (because I hate ads) but I have not ruled out putting up ads to generate revenue. I can work odd jobs and firmly believe in the barter system. I’m reading books about traveling cheaply and I’ve got nothing but time, so traveling slowly is fine with me.
I want to see the world. How am I going to do that? Any way I can.
