Planning What’s Next

Sometimes, we need to stop analyzing the past and start planning the future.

As my time in Puerto Rico winds down, I am thinking about what is next in my life. After much consideration, I’ve decided it is time for me to pursue some of my own dreams. After six months of helping the clean up efforts, I’ve learned that nothing is impossible.  After seeing the devastation here, and the way the Puerto Rican people have weathered this disaster, I know that perseverance will be rewarded. So it’s time to begin planning my travels and see the world, one trail at a time.

First on my list is the Appalachian Trail.  Described as the granddaddy of long distance trails, the Appalachian Trail stretches more than 2,150 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Baxter Mountain in Maine.   Most thru-hikers take from four to six months to complete the entire journey.  Most people spend months planning for an adventure like this.  I have about four weeks to get everything together.

Lucky for me, I have tried this before.  In 2005, I attempted to hike the trail for my master’s thesis.  While unsuccessful then, I still remember most of the information I need to get started planning for this adventure again.

What could I possibly need for an adventure like this? Those of you who know me, know that I hate electronics on the trail. I always see them as dead weight. But now, I’m in a position to need to carry them. So, I’ve decided to start this online blog to chronicle my adventures and further justify my carrying a phone.

I will be posting pictures from past adventures and hope everyone enjoys following my future travels!
